Re: extended baggage?

Hi all, Installition difficulties. We have purchased Selkirk's extended baggage kit for our 170B. It is certified for 50 #. Our problem is with the installation of the floor and we are discussing that with Selkirk as I post this. When the front lip is correctly positioned, and the aft end of the flo...

adjusting static RPM

Our 170B has the 145 Continental. The POH values for max static RPM on a landplane is 2230 to 2330, with ours at the low end 2250.

How do you increase it to 2330, without changing the prop?

Thanks!

Re: spinning modified 170's

Hi Pete and Bruce, Thanks for the insight into spinning a C-170 with only the VG's installed. Is there anyone out there who has just the Sportsman STOL kit installed? Per the STC for the 170 spins are still approved. What changes in spin characteristics did you notice after installation? FYI if the ...

spinning modified 170's

Hi all, We have a great 170B, and we know how well it can spin. My son is doing his ab-initio training in it, and I feel spin training is very important. However, we would also like to improve its take-off and landing performance as well, by possibly adding the Sportsman STOL kit, and micro VG's. I ...

Re: Larger Tires for a 170B?

Great news, thanks. Will put together a package for TC out here and hopefully they will be OK with the 800 tires.

Appreciate the help!

Re: Larger Tires for a 170B?

Hi "jatkins" Thanks for the info, it is just what I am looking for. Hopefully TC in Vancouver sees it the same way. Did you have to change the brake disc as well, or were they happy with the current one? Hi George, Thanks as well. Hopefully I can get this approved, if not I'll be looking f...

Re: Larger Tires for a 170B?

Hi guys, Thanks for the suggestions! Bruce F, I do have the STC and Transport Canada reviewed it. Although these hubs replace the Goodyear hubs, they advised that the only tires approved are 600 x 6 on the Cleveland 40-97A hub. Perhaps the FAA sees things differently! N2582D, I'll follow up with F A...

Re: Larger Tires for a 170B?

Hi all, Canadian help please! We would like to put 800 x 6 tires on a 170B. Are there any STC's specifically for this? If so, what wheel hub do we need? According to Transport Canada, Cleveland STC SA13GL only allows 600 x 6 tires on the Cleveland 40-97A wheel hubs. The larger 700 x 6 and 800 x 6 ti...

Re: ART Wing Extension or Horton STOL?

Great, thanks for the information! Let's add the Sportsman STOL to the list as well. The Wing-X info is $5495 CDN including shipping in Canada, plus about 35 hours installation time, installed weight of 17 lbs, adds 12 square feet of wing (7%) and 3' span, plus possible GW increase. Horton STOL, kit...

Re: ART Wing Extension or Horton STOL?

Yes, I am in Canada.

ART Wing-X are also hoping to get the paperwork approved for a 110 lb GW increase as well for the 145 HP 170's, and it should be retroactive to anyone who has them installed.

Still deciding which option gives a better performance increase: Wing-X or Horton?

Thanks

ART Wing Extension or Horton STOL?

Hi all,

Does anyone have the ART Wing Extension (Wing-X) on their 170?

How much of an improvement in the performance numbers?

How does this compare to the Horton STOL kit?

Just trying to decide which is better!

Thanks

Re: Bubble Windows on a 170'B?

Thanks, I have them on my '185, great for shoulder room, and downwards visibility to check runways/lakes before landing.

Glad they can go on the '170.

Re: pilot height?

Hi Jon, Thanks for the tip. My son's feet are size 12 and still growing. Fortunately in Vancouver the winters are not as harsh as in Alaska. Will have to see about the headsets, that could be an issue, so making the top foam thinner, or installing slylights, could fix that issue. Appreciate the inpu...
