Re: Door Seal

The best door seal / weatherstrip I've found to replace the original is: Brown Aircraft T-9088 . (Some mfr's call it "Piper" door seal, but don't let that fool you. It's what Cessna used.) My 140 still has the original door seal retainer and I don't think this shape will work with it. The...

Re: More Winter baffle questions...

Thanks David - Great idea - I will make one of those along with the restrictor plates. Will make my wife *somewhat* happier. Actual happiness would require a cabin temp around 80F. Have a look at this link: http://cessna170.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=10951 The simple heat duct made a world ...

Re: More Winter baffle questions...

Thanks Bruce, I do indeed have the shorter cowl lip. I'm going to make a set of plates something like the ones in your photo & will try to make them adjustable over a couple of inches as well. Will leave a gap for the heat inlet too - that tiny little outlet near my left shin is so much better t...

More Winter baffle questions...

Hello All - I've had a look through previous posts & though there are quite a few posts about winterization kits haven't found found the information I'm looking for. First, some background to the question(s). I flew to Kelowna today from Langley (about 1 hr drive east of Vancouver) and because i...

Re: iPad Mini

I have had an iPad 2 for a little over a year now and I also have a Lowrance 2000C with a database from somewhere around 2008. As others have said, the mountains and rivers stay pretty much in the same places, but the thing is not much help these days when navigating the fairly complex airspace in t...

Re: Hot weather issues

Gentlemen,

Thanks for your replies. I hadn't realised that running 50 weight oil increased the redline - that sounds like the simplest solution by far.

Hot weather issues

Hello All, Summer has finally arrived in Southern B.C., and temps in the Interior approached 100 deg. F. this past weekend. Departing Vernon (about 1400' ASL) with 1 passenger & some baggage at about 2000 lbs we achieved an initial climb rate of about 300 fpm, and the oil temp quickly rose close...

Re: O-300 Recommended oil level

This is interesting - the fellow who owned my 170A before me said to fill it to 7q and put another quart in when it gets down to 6. I never let it sit at 6 quarts, but in light of this discussion I'm going to give it a try & see how quickly it drops to 5 1/2. One thing I do know is any amount ov...

Re: Prop balancing problems !?

Gentlemen - Thanks for all your replies! We did not check the prop track before testing yesterday but it was checked at annual in June and was fine then. I had pored through articles about prop indexing in this forum before the annual and was able to verify that the prop was indexed properly. Fred, ...

Prop balancing problems !?

Hello All - I tried to have the prop balanced on my 170A today and got an odd result, so I thought I'd post here & see if anyone has run into this before. First some background ... Engine is a mid-time C145 with serial number 5086-D-0-2 (am I correct in believing that the "D" indicates...

Re: UMA Electronic Tach from Aircraft Spruce

Thanks for all your replies - I'm going to give the Mitchell a try since it seems to get a lot of good reviews. As far as failures go I would rather loose the tach than any of the flight instruments - engine won't break if run flat out for a while (in fact it is smoothest then !?) and my ears are OK...

Re: UMA Electronic Tach from Aircraft Spruce

Looks like I didn't do a very good search before posting - just found another thread in which George Horn posted a pic of the UMA tach as well. Sorry about that! The point about mechanical tachs not needing an electrical system is a good one, and it looks like a few people have had good experiences ...

UMA Electronic Tach from Aircraft Spruce

Hello All, The mechanical tach in my 170A is giving up the ghost - it reads 300 to 400 RPM low for the first 10 minutes of flight & then springs to the correct reading. If engine RPM drops to idle as in a touch & go or power off stall the process repeats itself & after 10 min or so the t...

Re: part number for vent tubes

Hi Carleton, I've got a 1950 A that doesn't have end caps on the vent tubes - don't know if thats the way they came from the factory or not. Anyway, if you are an 'originality nut' and don't want the end caps I'd be happy to buy them from you - seems to me that the tubes would seal closed better wit...
