Re: First Plane Rides
It is interesting to note the lack of radios and engine monitoring equipment in that cockpit... I am assuming that the engineer and radio operator/navigator have their own busy stations. I really like the old concept of multi-crew flying as opposed to how it is done today. I am not trying to knock w...

Re: One Great Summer
I too, find it amazing how many of the guys that I flew with in the Navy only looked at flying as "just a job"! Not all of them mind you, but quite a few. It was funny, the whole time that I flew in the Navy I dreamed of flying Cessnas. When I left the service I only had commercial helicop...

Re: Pitot/Static Probllems
The static line was tie-wrapped inside of a bundle that I believe contains the landing light circuit. It was also in close vicinity to the switch. I don't think that the avionics company tie-wrapped the bundle necesarily, but they probably disturbed the placement of the static line. The static line ...

Re: Pitot/Static Probllems
Well I found the problem today. The static line from the alternate static source was melted. It was tie-wrapped in a bundle near the landing light switch... h'mm, makes me wonder about the connection to the reecent posts about switch problems. I was flying beneath Class B airspace, and it was hazy s...

Pitot/Static Probllems
This is not a 170 problem but a 172 problem that happened to me but I thought it was interesting and just as applicable to our 170s. I have recently bought a nice little 172 to give flight instruction in and had to take it down to the avionics shop to have an intercom installed. I have had this part...

Re: Pilot's Operating Handbook
The publication that I found the blurb about POHs not being airplane specific until 1979 was the Jeppeson Private Pilot Manual... hardly able to stand scrutinization by higher authorities. Does anyone know where I can find that info in a more official publication? I have not had any luck with the AI...

Pilot's Operating Handbook
I have a question concerning POHs. I recently bought a nice little 1977 C172N to be used for flight instruction. I have been going through it to make sure everything is legal and is as perfect as I can make it for my students. I just yesterday noticed that the POH does not have the airplane serial n...

Re: OT- HOT in Texas!
For the longest time I had an HVAC company do the twice yearly checkups on my units (my present home has three), it cost two or three hundred a year. About a two years ago the company I had used for ten or twelve years went out of business shortly after the original owner died and I switched compani...

Re: Airport Identifiers vs GPS
It is funny that this subject came up. I was pondering a bit yesterday and was trying to remember why some airports use numbers for identifiers and others don't. It doesn't seem to be an airspace or size issue. What is it?

Re: 1 takeoff and 2 landings (video) and some landing discussion
I too use this for my wheel landings (also modified for the 170) and I believe it is a good method, but it is only half the equation when it comes to what we should carry in our arsenal. The other half being the often maligned old fashioned three pointer. To be truly proficient we need to be good at...

Re: 1 takeoff and 2 landings (video) and some landing discussion
Well, I think I finally got my groove back on! I had changed something and wasn't getting very good landings anymore. I figured that I must be overcontrolling/overreacting on touch down so I just concentrated on doing everything extra smoothly and in slow motion and I have been getting some beautifu...

Re: Not a C-170 Story
Maybe its a result of having my brains scrambled by helicopter rotors, but I like playing "what-if's". I have often wondered what would be the best course of action if I ever had a fuel leak in the cabin, say from a leaking fuel line (complete with heavy fumes). My first reaction is to sec...

Re: 1 takeoff and 2 landings (video) and some landing discussion
This sounds very familiar! I have had my 170A for seven years now, and I have probably done a few thousand touch and go's. In the past I did three pointers almost exclusively and didn't have much of a problem but wheelies were difficult. The airplane was a little squirrely, so I realigned my gear an...

Re: panel rewire
I installed the Nulites and think they are great! I was able to use mine with all of the 3 1/8" instruments including the old style DG. If I could figure out where to post pictures I would take some. When I installed mine several years ago I did not buy any for my smaller guages but used the st...
