Re: starter cable

The best solution I have found is to use a Wire Grip cable end available from Aircraft Spruce. When installed, the grip on a solid wire control is incredibly strong. Then install a rod end bearing on the threaded portion of the Wire Grip. Install the rod end bearing on the starter control arm with a...

ARC (Cessna) 41260-0000 Power Filter

I'm planning to install an ARC (Cessna) 41260-0000 power filter between my main buss and my avionics buss so that the avionics buss is powered thru the filter. Hopefully, that will stop any alternator noise on the avionics buss. Does anyone know the current rating of the filter? Based upon the wire ...

Cessna OEM Control Lock 0511142

I recently acquired a Cessna OEM Control Lock that was supposed to be a 0511142 lock. However, the lock is too short to use on the top of the control wheel as shown in the parts manuals (170 Index 59-1, 170A Index 71-1, 170B Index 98-1). Overall length of the lock is 31 inches from the top of the co...

Instrument Panel Shock Mounts

Has anyone found a better instrument panel shock mount than the stock Cessna 0411059-1 mounts? The stock mounts don't last very long before the entire instrument panel starts sagging. Loading the stock mounts in sheer like they are was an incredibly poor design practice by Cessna, particularly for t...

Oil Sump Drain Plug

The forward oil sump drain plug on my O-300 is drilled for safety wire. However, with the oil sump baffle installed, I can't find any place on the engine to attach a safety wire. Even if I take the baffle off temporarily, I can't find any place to attach a safety wire that would not interfere with r...

Aft Radio Rack

Looking at installing ADS-B boxes in both a 170A and an early 172 (essentially same as 170B). Has anyone installed avionics aft of the baggage compartment in the tail cone? What type of avionics mount did you use and/or make? Any pictures?

O-300 Crankcase Cover Plug

The O-300 parts manual (figure 9 index 35) shows a pipe plug installed in the crankcase cover under the starter, between the mags, and above the tachometer cable adapter. My cover (early style as shown in the figure) does not have a plug installed or a hole where a plug could be installed. Does anyo...

Oil Pressure Relief Valve Cap Leak

Does anyone have any tricks to stop an oil leak from the O-300 oil pressure relief valve cap? No matter how many times I change the AN900-14 gasket, the new gasket always seems to leak. I've even tried applying Loctite 592 Teflon PST Pipe Sealant IAW TCM SIL 99-2B, but even that doesn't seem to help.

Intercylinder Baffle Orientation

Can anyone definetely confirm the proper orientation of the inboard baffles on an O-300? The baffles are assymetrical, with one side larger than the other. Parts books, both for the 170A and early model 172s, do not clearly show the orientation. I believe the larger side should be installed facing a...
