I made that file, so I can help.
Cessna “bird” isn’t reversed, that’s why there’s only one in the file. They only made one stencil.
Cessna block lettering doesn’t go anywhere on the 1953. It was only under the prop on the 1948-1952.

Re: C145 oil level
No oil filter on my airplane. It likes to sit between 5 1/2 and 6. Anything much over 6 and it pukes out of the breather.

I thought that sounded like you on the radio at GWW a few weeks ago, Ben. I suppose you bought Kenneth Cox’s airplane?

Re: Pull Starter Replacement
Michael, Cole Hersee makes a momentary contact pull switch that would function similarly to the original pull starter that may be of interest to you. M486 is the part number. It has a silver knob that supposedly can be unscrewed, so an original knob could be installed. I am considering that route wh...

13,500 topping some weather coming back from Knoxville a few years ago.
In hindsight, it wasn’t the best course of action, but interesting nonetheless. I routinely fly 7-8000 feet on cross countries.

Re: B model cowling repair
Are we all assuming that the nose cowl is made of 2024 T3 aluminium. I would be surprised if it was but saying that I have no idea what it is made of . How ever there is a STC for a carbon fibre cowl for a 170 series aircraft . Again I know nothing about it only seen it in the FAA list of STC,s . M...

Re: B model cowling repair
I can pretty much bet that the later model nosebowls are a softer alloy given the sharp bends.
Guido Perla welded up his stationary panel with great results. I’ve heard the same about 2024-T3.
Sounds like reaching out to Jay might be a good opportunity for a 170 News article?

Re: B model cowling repair
Lay up a fiberglass insulator layer on there...can be 3/4 oz glass. If you don’t, you’ll get some bad corrosion, particularly because that place can get wet.
That nose bowl should be able to be welded, if need be.
MGS or West Systems both make good stuff. Pick your poison.

Re: IOWA'S 170
George and I appear to be mostly on the same page. Regarding the battery, it depends on the health and age of the battery. If it’s the only time it’s happened, chances are fairly good. Fellow member Kennet DeJesus was in town a few months back and we did some flying in 56D as he’d never flown a 170 ...
