Re: Safety Item: Resetting Circuit Breakers/Fuses
Some years ago at my old airline we could reset the circuit breaker once. IIRC someone reset a breaker once and it fried the wires to the FO's pitot heat and started a fire in the console on the FO's right side inflight and melted a bunch of wires. After that only maintenance could reset a breaker u...

Re: Aileron spar lightening holes
I was wondering about these holes when I was at the airport yesterday. I've got a '63 172D model and it has 27 holes on the right aileron and 8 on the left. According to the logs the wings were replaced in 1971 and the plane repainted then.

Re: Swine Flu and H1N1
You're correct George. That's exactly like saying the FAA lives off our tax dollars, and the more they regulate, the more they get. The CDC is as full of bureaucrats as any other government agency. How did we survive before it existed? Talk about the Surgeon General. 75% of the time, they are neith...

Re: Oil Cooler for O-300's
I think I found this on the Swift site. It might explain a little about oil cooling on the Conny. Continental was opposed to external oil lines on their engines, and the "C"-series of engines was designed without them. Although an oil cooler design was produced by TCM (Continental Motors C...

Re: Pilot Certificate
In the late 80's I was in the military and some military pilots were getting out and trying for the airlines. I was able to get my hands on an old Piper Apache. 5 of these folks would come up to the control tower where I worked in the evening and study for the FAA comp exam. All 5 had the flight tim...

If this is not too far for you to go (about 40 miles north of BOS) they have good instructors for tailwheel birds. After the ride you can take a walk for some fried clams or have a hamburger there at the field.

I had my generator rebuilt last year by these folks. The generator that was in my plane was also from them and lasted about 1500 hours.
