Re: Mag Troubles Take 2

Jud, I had to leave last night and couldn't elaborate on the prop pull.....Bendix mags have a CW and a CCW timing mark (easy to switch about three or four teath off) although that doesn't count for the same exact mag drop as you had to begin with....I'm still looking at a crack in the distributor ho...

Re: Mag Troubles Take 2

Jud, something I just thought about......see if when you pull the prop through for number one...... are the leads for number one sparking at about the sane time? of course I'm not counting for the lag in the timing but they should spark at the same prop pull not several pulls later......

Re: Mag Troubles Take 2

Jud, I hate to reiterate....but as I said on page one or two of the last thread.....IT'S THE MAG...we had a newly rebuilt mag come from Tulsa, for the Prat 1340 I was flying this summer....hung it and it run like crap...got another mag from a neighboring company, hung it and finished the rest of the...

Re: DREMEL TOOL ADVENTURES

Thats why you never air clean a bearing by letting it (spin) with out luberation, you can gall the (race) and bearings in a heart beat... 8O fast enough that it will come apart when it was fine just before you spun it.....

Re: Mag Troubles

Jud, Haven't heard if you found your problem with the switch change. did it work? if so cool....By the way...the only way to do a mag check is with the engine at idle.....switch the mag switch to off....just long enough to see that the engine is going to die then back to both.....nothing else works ...

Re: C-170 Paperwork

Ole pokey, As I'm sure you already know the only paper work you need on your AC is AROW (airworthiness cert, registration, operators manual, and weight and balance) As George and Richard pointed out the real Knowledge needed is that you, and every one else in this forum, understand what each part or...

Re: Mag Troubles

On the idea of doing a hi-tension test......it will also show a crack in the distributor housing....where if you are using the same mag and it wasn't found.....there could be your problem. I usually like to order overhauled-exchange parts for mags and carbs when I have a problem.....simply because t...

Re: Mag Troubles

My last post went away 8O ....so I'll try again...I am with Bruce on this....If the problem didn't travel with the P-lead change It seams the switch isn't an issue..... also it is improbable, but not impossible to get a bad harness off the shelf, I meant earlier to ask if you did a Hi-tension test o...
