Re: Polish

Mike's right: the perfectpolish.com website has lots of good information. NuVite is the good stuff, and a Cyclo polisher will help you get the best results. No secrets really... just lots of time and desire! As has been said before, though: the 170 is such a pretty plane, how could you not want to p...

Re: OT - Glider

In addition to our 170B, I also fly gliders and hang gliders. The Archaeopteryx has caught all soaring pilot's attention -and imagination! Haven't seen one over here in the U.S. yet, though. Brian Porter pioneered a similar aircraft years ago, called the Swift . It's another beautiful ultralight sai...

Re: Some flying pics from this Saturday

Great photos, Buzz and Rob!
Wish I'd made the trip over the Sierras to join you, now.
I took Kathy for a birthday flight and visit with friends in Auburn instead. A beautiful day for flyin'!

Re: Big Tyre/Little Tyre & the "Bush Look" Real World Thoug

Living here on the N.W. edge of the Great Basin, and at the base of the Eastern Sierras I keep 8" tires on our stock 170. I often land off-airport, but not in "the bush". I choose dirt strips, dry lakebeds, etc. I sure wonder how she'd do with some bigger AKBushwheels; but have decide...

Re: High Sierra Fly-In/Oct. 27th-28th

Great photos, Rob! Sure wish I coulda stayed on longer with y'all... Glad I got to meet you and Stacey, and Tieton too. We'll rendezvous at another dirt strip down the road, I'm sure. By the way, that looks like a gnarly landing spot you made it into... I don't think my 8" tires would be quite ...

Re: High Sierra Fly-In/Oct. 27th-28th

65C Keepin' Good Company The Fly-In at a nondescript dry lake bed in Northern Nevada was well-attended! 26 planes in all, with 17 overnighting. A nice young couple in their 170 were the first to arrive Fri. night, and braved the chilly temps camping with their faithful dog Tieton. Super Cubs, Maules...

Re: High Sierra Fly-In/Oct. 27th-28th

It is that time of year, and we just had our first snowfall over the past two days. It's left a lovely dusting of the high country, but the high desert east of the Sierra Nevada Mtns. is still pretty dry. Daytime temps will be in the low 60's, (16 degrees for my Canadian friends!) and nights just ab...

High Sierra Fly-In/Oct. 27th-28th

One of the active backcountry pilots in our N. Sierra region has organized a fly-in at a dry lake bed east of Carson City, Nv. this coming weekend. Weather is moving through the area, but has typically spared the lakebed from precip. (That's why we have all this sagebrush!) I'll be heading that way ...

Re: It's always nice to receive a compliment about the 170..

"convention is in July....) " Heck, why wait 'till July?? With winter coming to the northern tier of States, wouldn't Texas be a nice winter getaway for all the polishing wannabe's? I'll bring an extra Cyclo polisher with me, along with the case or two of beer I'll need for my supervisoria...

Re: It's always nice to receive a compliment about the 170..

She is deserving of compliments! Nice work! As a 170 owner who's done a bit of polishing myself, I can attest that it's those kind words that provide some of the motivation when it's just me, the plane, and the Cyclo polisher in the hangar! Plus: the Cessna 170 is such a beautiful plane to begin wit...

Re: Paint turnout

Very pretty! I believe Cessna called that "Polar Blue" in their brochures for 1954. Our '54 has the been repainted with the same original scheme, in red. We're missing the "dart" at the rear fuselage, and I've never decided if I'd prefer it to be there or not... yours turned out ...

Re: Need Input...name for an airport cafe

I'm not sure what the Runways are at your airport, but I've always liked the name: "Two-Niner Diner" for our local airport's cafe.
Only trouble is, we don't have one there yet!

Re: Convention Attendance

Kathy and I attended our first Convention in 2010 in Michigan. Last summer in San Diego made #2, and we flew Six Five Charlie to each gathering. It has really changed our concept of owning such a wonderful plane as the 170... and all the nice folks said kind things about our shiny plane, too! :D I h...

Re: Helicopter trip. A bit of topic

That sounds like an enviable trip, Bruce! Sorry for the occasion for it, though... My nephew is a corporate Lear pilot, and lives with that day-to-day uncertainty, too. He's told me that his connections in the industry make all the difference when things get dicey; and I'll bet your connections will...
