Can anyone give me the phone number and address of Jim Hayton at North Sound Aviation? Need to send a bent lady leg to him to see if it is repairable.
Thanks, Dan

Miles - just put a set of Aero-Flash strobes in the 170B wingtips and powered them with the old CB and Switch from a single strobe. Power supply bolts to the end rib of the wing(s) and I fished a wire out by taping a new wire to the nav light wire at the wing root and pulling the nav light wire out ...

Wheel Pant Brackets
Question for all you experts: My original wheel pant (inside) brackets on my 170B are curved inward just outside of the mounting holes to the gear leg. Later Cessna ones are not - can anyone tell me if the straight ones used on the 172s, etc. will work on 170s, or can I use only the formed (curved) ...

I installed one on my 170B project about 3 months ago. It took about 2 1/2 days to complete it. There was a lot of cut and fit and the drawings for the small parts fabrication were very poor. But it looks nice once completed. Good luck! The first cut on the side skin is the hardest! I kept it small ...

Heater Questions
Took my first long X-C in really cold weather last week and noticed my left leg was getting fried with the cabin heat full on. I have a 1952 170B with the old style heater that just has the output on the left side. In looking today, noticed it has a 1 1/2 inch tube that comes straight out of the hea...

Lycoming 180 conversion
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but can someone give me the REAL numbers difference in using a Lyc 180 vs. the Continental C-145? Do all the conversions use a controllable pitch prop, or is there any with a fixed pitch? Not convinced it's the way to go, but would like to know the advantages...

Tricycle Gear 170
Just curious.........are there any 170s still flying with the nose gear conversion? Many years ago, I used to fly a ragwing 170 with the conversion - flew okay, but sure was ugly (but it didn't cost me anything to fly)! When taxiing, it seemed like you could almost see the nosegear. If I remember, i...

Hey, GAHorn, I go by the Simuflite building everyday (that's the one at Glade with all the construction, right?). Been working at AEA for the last 6 months doing contracting, but get home to KC and my 170 every weekend. Didn't realize you were so close by........maybe lunch some day? Dan Kirkpatrick

O-300D Conversion
Can someone enlighten me on the cost of the STC for the O-300D conversion? I understand that the STC is owned by the Association. I assume the only thing I have to do is wire up the starter (either key or button) and do something about a vacuum pump, etc. Just can't find a good crank for my C-145! T...

I attended the IA renewal forum here in KC about a week and a half ago. It was an all-day joke except for the Kelly Aerospace guy who talked on turbos and carburetors - good info. The FAA talked all of about 5 minutes on renewals. We gave them our tickets and they still haven't sent it back endorsed...

Thanks, everybody! George, I appreciate the information you sent and will use the data, but I talked to Harry at Del-Air and purchased his STC, still for $200. Figure the lack of hassle with the FSDO is probably worth the price. I have a wrecked 1980 172 carcass that still has the frame and I have a...

Baggage Door
I will be requesting the 337 for the baggage door shortly from headquarters, but does anyone know which 172 doors will work? I know Cessna changed them several times, so am assuming one from a non-omni vision (no rear window) 172 is the one I want. I also assume the cargo door frame from the same st...

Skydivers - I flew a C182 and several Beech 18s hauling jumpers some years ago. Since I owned the planes, I guess I took my own risks, but they were in pretty good condition. Always carried an extra ignition key -as the stories go, the last jumper out grabs the key! That and a sharp knife in case a ...

Opinions on engines needed
I have two C-145 engines and will use one of them on my project: (1) 600 SFRM by TW Smith, BUT done in 1976 - engine was removed and sort of pickled in 1990. Turns good and has compression. Was not from a damaged aircraft. No accessories. Early SN from a '48, but am sure it is dampened crank. Do hav...
