Re: Rough running O300A

Gary,

Thanks for the clarification.. makes perfect sense.. I''ll check it out. If it is currently correct at 11/5, then I'll swap ends to see if that changes anything..

Regards,
Rick

Re: Rough running O300A

Just a question, as I have a slight vibration:
In SNL 3-23-54, if the lower pic is of the 170, and the view says looking aft from prop, wouldn't the clock angle be about 1 pm \7pm ? as viewed facing the prop from the front , looking aft?

Thank you.

Re: Vacuum Relief Valve Adjustment

Nate, just a question on how you have it plumbed.. I have (2) 9" venturi's with no regulator, and I can barely make 3-4". I had a regulator but recently removed it to see what results I'd get. It improved , but slightly.. What size line do you have to your T or manifold? And what type of f...

Re: Angle - Tailwheel Bracket - Lower / Upper Re-inforcement

I rebuilt my 170A tailcone from the bulkhead (#1) all the way back, including #15 and #18 with L-19 parts and others from Air Repair. I have some info on those angles .Send me a PM if you like and we can discuss over the phone.

Re: Painting

G1.jpg Another option if you don't want to mess with chemicals, is to use a 3M wrap material. I worked with a local graphics company to create a full size template from some 1950 A model pictures and measurements . It applied well and has held up excellent thus far. This aircraft was already stripp...

Re: Baffling resource for C-170

I bought a set of Airforms B model baffling (used) for my A model, due to the fact the the original baffling was junk I had modified the firewall heater valve and added the interior B model ducting\plenum as well. I also went to a B model Hanlon wilson muffler setup, and updated the carb heat elbow ...

Re: 1951 C170A Flap Issue

In the 170A IPC, Figure 17, item 21 shows the flap handle. It also shows 2 holes in the area where the cable attaches. I used the lower hole during pre-rigging, and even with the correct tension and travel, the cable is rubbing on the lower aft bulkhead hole where it first passes through, going aft....

Re: Vacuum Relief Valve Adjustment

So the results were mixed.....The leaf blower with one 9" venturi , one guage, no regulator and one instrument (AH) provided just enough vacuum to spool up the instrument to the point to where I could hear it, and see it set the horizon, as well as rock the wings and see it respond... Then I ho...

Re: Vacuum Relief Valve Adjustment

All great ideas and info, thank you...Flying the aircraft right now, is not currently an option , as it is the final resto stages and I am almost ready to turn on the master...engine still needs run-in after overhaul , paperwork etc.. but I have a vac pump and a leaf blower, so I'll let you know how...

Re: Vacuum Relief Valve Adjustment

I like the leaf blower idea, as I could start far away and have someone watch the gauge... I tried briefly with the shop vac . but there was no result. as there is just not enough velocity and flow across both venturi's... I could only pull from one at a time...It sure would be nice to know that eve...

Re: Vacuum Relief Valve Adjustment

I am just finishing up a total restoration of a 170A , and have (2) 9' venturi's and regulator with a modern AH , DG and gauge.. Whereas I have no base line of knowing that the system is working, other than the overhaul of the instruments,( plane hasn't flown since 92, and I got it as a project) doe...

Re: Circuit Breaker Install

Thanks Karl, and Dave.. Yes , I think I wrote the ammeter portion incorrectly. As I understand it now, the ammeter is wired directly to the bus bar , from the battery solenoid , and the Gen breaker is wired from the B terminal on the regulator, through the breaker, and that feeds the main bus... The...

Re: Circuit Breaker Install

Nice job indeed. I'm in the process of a similar mod, but in an A model. Just 2 questions,1 for Kyle, and 1 in general...: In the 2nd picture, the main bus bar covers all the breakers, minus the Land Light breaker. - are you wiring the power to that breaker from the bar, due to the terminal setup? I...

Re: CHT & EGT replacement sending units

Ok,I checked the gauge, and on the Westach\Westberg 2DA1, CHT white is to pin 1, black is to pin 8, For the EGT, white is pin 4, and black is pin 5..
I believe the senders were from Spruce, and maybe type J.

Re: CHT & EGT replacement sending units

If it helps any, I have a Westach 2DA1 Combo CHT\EGT, with new thermocouples that both have black and white leads. When I return home later, I can tell you what pin numbers they are each on. Not sure of your gauge though.
