wood spar in 170?
http://www.backcountrypilot.org/gallery/albums/userpics/10394/normal_photo~0.JPG Having a little time on my hands after surgery I built an guillows cessna 170. It has a 2 ft wingspan. I put an electric motor and servos for elevator and rudder. (they were off a parkzone ultra micro airplane) The mai...

Re: Pushrod tube swage or flaring tool?
Tubes were beaded this afternoon. We put the pushrods and rockers back in. Tomorrow I'll put the covers and baffling back on and the annual will be done. Time will tell if they still leak. We are going to give the motor a good wash so we can better check for leaks.

Re: Pushrod tube swage or flaring tool?
Mission complete and a big thanks to Arash. Flew over to HAF for fish tacos and grabbed the flaring tool from Arash's hangar. Came home and it fit! This weekend I'll actually get in there and re-bead the tubes. Until then thanks again to Arash. Now get back to your honeymoon and quit hanging out on ...

Re: Pushrod tube swage or flaring tool?
Thanks George, I think your tool is similar to my IA's and it won't fit the thick walled tubes. Both Jud and Arash have offered there tools and Arash is a little closer than Jud. Part of being injured and out of work is that I am now a card carrying member of the retired airport bum club. I tossed o...

Re: Pushrod tube swage or flaring tool?
Gerorge you are not harsh. I'm stupid but not that stupid. I also hang out with people that are smarter than me, hense the forum. The tool came out of the package broken. 2 of the ball bearings work free but the one stays fully out. In the other tools I have dealt with when you take the screw out th...

Re: Pushrod tube swage or flaring tool?
The saga continues. This tool arrived today. Perfect size to fit all the pushrods. I measured the interior diameter of my tubes and they range from .650-.690 depending on cylinder. Some tubes are thick walled and some are thin walled. But..... One of the ball bearings in the tool was jammed and does...

Re: Tail wheel play
alright, parts on order. In the meantime I'm going to have some fun. I figure Ill put the old tailwheel spring on with no tailwheel. Attach a container of gasoline or highly flamable material and go out for a night flight. This should be fun!
George you have some of the most useful info.

Re: Tail wheel play
I have an old scot 3200 laying around the hangar. I am going to take it apart and play with it and try to understand the inner workings. Thanks for the advice. If I decide to replace parts at least I will have had some practice.

Tail wheel play
I'm at the hangar doing the annual and on a phone so searching is tough. I have the tail on a jack to repack the tail wheel bearings. When I grab the tail wheel and wiggle it there is a little bit of play. I am only rotating the assembley a fraction of a degree but the rear of the tail wheel is movi...

Re: Thinking about a trip
Once you get out here you won't want to leave. We could schedule a couple of impromptu 170 fly ins/outs when you get out here. I can offer you free tie downs and plenty of maintenance support in Sacramento. Got a hangar full of 170 parts and tools for oil changes or whatever. I'm going to do the opp...

Re: Pushrod tube swage or flaring tool?
Thanks guys. I think I am just going to buy the ats tool and lathe it down if needed. That way I have it on hand and I don't have to destroy my IA's tool. Thanks for all the help. It sucks trying to manage maintenance from my couch. I wish I could be out at the hangar. George, do you have the ATS to...

Re: Pushrod tube swage or flaring tool?
He said his works on an 0-300 and 0-200. The guys next door had a cylinder off their G0-300 (c-175) and his tool fit perfectly on theirs but not ours. I forwarded him the link for the ATS tool and he said it is slightly different from the tool he has. He was wondering why that tool didn't specify a ...
