Re: Apple IPad Mini review

I use the RAM rotating kneeboard for my full-sized iPad and like it a lot. It uses two stretching Velcro straps with plastic buckles and a rotating cradle. However it doesn't appear that they make one for the mini. Yet. http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/0820650770450...

Re: Skis?

Airglas Inc. in Anchorage was working on getting their new GLH3000 hydraulic wheel skis certified for the Cessna 170 on a STC. Not sure if they've accomplished that yet. For a brand new hydraulic wheel ski the price actually wasn't too eye-watering. Hmmm. "Not too eye-watering" at $12900.0...

Re: Rigging issue?

Good to hear from you Richard! Glad you are flying strait now! I put 60 hrs on since last Oct. New engine still feels rough to me! :? Pond froze over the other day. Getting ready for skis! Well the 170 is straightened out but I'm not :? Took summer off from flying while I worked down here in ...

Re: Rigging issue?

Could it be that now the left wing is correct after repair but a bent aileron which was at one time compensating for a bad wing, is now causing this trim problem. Winner winner chicken dinner. Been a long time since I posted, been busy. But my repair job to remove "dished" areas slightly ...

Don't know where the first photo is, but are the rest Comb Ridge, Valley of the Gods, and the Goosenecks of the San Juan?

Re: Federal AWB 2500 Wheel-ski

So...say one has found not one but two sets of AWB 2500 wheel skis, both previously rigged for a PA-18. What would be involved in setting them up for a 170 in terms of having to source different parts from Wipaire, AtleeDodge, etc.

Would I lose my sanity in short order?

Re: Rigging issue?

Richard, It sounds like your problem lay with the ailerons. But it seems strange that your plane flew level hands off before the rebuild using the same ailerons. Any idea why? I thought of your rigging issue when I ran across this old Cessna Service Letter which concerns the landing light on the Sk...

Re: Rigging issue?

3/16 inch square key stock with one end smoothed nice and round on a grinding wheel, and a large cork bottle stopper with a hole drilled through the center on the other for a handle, has worked pretty darn well along with a hot air gun and a bucket of cold water and a sponge. I used two of these hom...

Re: Rigging issue?

I think this company stopped making them. If anyone finds a source, please let me know. R.A.T. (Rib Alignment Tool) http://www.generalaviationnews.com/2009/09/18/rib-alignment-tool-debuts/ I believe that is the tool. Here's another view of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yHGQzhm8BU&feature=...

Re: Mystery engine component

I've never ever heard of a ramp inspection on a private part 91 operator that required the decowling of an aircraft

The worst that can happen is a dissective examination by a party in a NTSB investigation, in which event you will beyond caring. Perish the thought!

Re: Rigging issue?

Update for anyone who is interested: Both ailerons were removed and put on a jig. They measured out correctly but severe "dishing" exists on the underside of the left (less severe on the right  ) Tim's were installed and after rigging everything back to book neutral the problem has mo...

Re: Rigging issue?

The Right one is off. I just want it back before the snow starts piling up. If the right one doesn't change anything we can pull the Left one off and try that too. It would be another trouble shooting tool. My wing is in the Brooks jig. I can't get my mechanic off the computer! 8O Well, that's wher...

I might take you up on that - would be great to test drive before I "buy."

You aren't using it yet? :(

I'll call Vicki in the morn.

Re: Rigging issue?

Both ailerons are less than perfect but they were less than perfect before too. They look like many with some bent trailing edges from wing covers, small dents etc.

But we will take a closer look. One might have a concavity that could really be adversely affecting the airflow.

Rigging issue?

My 170b has a problem... When the yoke is held in a neutral position and feet off the pedals it flies straight and level with the ball centered. Both ailerons line up with the trailing edge of the flaps more or less. Let go of the yoke and the yoke rotates to the left, the left aileron goes up about...
