Re: Delco Remy Generator
Yeah, it's a good feeling. Even better for my co-pilot/wife when I see that she doesn't have white knuckles anymore just because the LCD digits on my radio start dancing around! 8O All is well at the moment. It even got an oil change with only a few hours on it from the last change. I should have pi...

Re: Another sad day in Alaska
Truly another tragedy that no one has the answer to. Most unfortunate. All types of scenarios of what might have happened are lessons for the rest of us. I'm sure that he knew his airplane like the back of his hand. He demonstrated that with his pictures. It's a comfortable feeling. But drop your gu...

Re: Delco Remy Generator
Love it when things go right! Received my 35 amp generator and solid state voltage regulator from AeroTech of Louisville. My mechanic installed them, made the log book entries, and it's a done deal! Works GREAT  My amp needle seams to never cross to the negative side. PLUS, the occasional stati...

Interesting how the mechanics were willing to come to you to repair your plane!

Re: Delco Remy Generator
Quick up-date: Bit-the-bullet. Ordered a 35amp generator with a matching solid state voltage regulator. I know for just a little more I could convert to an alternator. I also know that for a little more I could upgrade my 12' row boat with a 6 hp Johnson to a 19' inboard, or a 24' cuddy-cab, or a 32...

Re: Delco Remy Generator
Thanks George, I didn't want to put the time in, but took your advice and benched the generator. Hooked it to the battery like you said, and it spun like a motor. My ampmeter used to dance from +5 to +20 in flight and then would stop straight up at zero. When the needle danced, my radio had static. ...

Delco Remy Generator
My old 20 amp generator (1101890) decided to quit. I don't want to convert to an alternator. I just want to pull off the old generator and replace it with a rebuilt. Had an IA test it, and there's nothing coming out! Brushes looked good, but that's as far as I'm going. Does anyone know of a shop in ...

Bill, If you HAVE to go with carpet, go with nail strips and stretch over a good pad for concrete. Having done this before, with 4 kids growing up, I would recommend a vinyl floor or better- hardwood strips glued down. I say this because even though you may choose a rugged carpet, drinks are spilled...

Plane is bought and paid for sitting in my shop. My intension is to put it up on floats. 65's coming off, 90's going on. And I have some mods to take care of. Motor mount, dorsel fin, wing tanks, etc... I don't need the gear. The one that was removed is repairable. I can't start this project until m...

Not a 170, but have to post my new toy!
I just purchased a ground-looped Champ that needs a little fixin' up! Right gear was pulled off, wing tip damaged, wooden prop destroyed. Kind of a shame. This plane had less than 15 hours since total restore! I'm going to start with the wing. The 2 spars are cracked at the tip, so I'm in the market...

I've never flown a 170, so I can't judge. But I've got well over 100 hrs. on my '56 172 TailDragger and absolutely love how it handles. It's got the Bolen gear (sits up a little higher) with the Scott 3200 tail wheel. Tracks straight on the ground and flies 'hands off' in level flight. Excellent rud...

I've replaced the springs in my door latches and I'm going to put the doors back on. Too many irons in the fire right now to attempt to align and repaint a door. I'll just keep my eyes open for a door and deal with it when I find one. My fuselage is pretty straight and I don't anticipate too many al...
