Help! Front Seat Needed!
Due to a short between the helmet and the stick, I am in immediate need of a round-backed front seat (locking pin on the left side--not sure if they're all that way or not). The nice folks at Dawson have a square backed seat from an early Chickenhawk, but I would need to buy two to have a matched se...

Re: More Axle Questions
I think the "pilot reamer" is also called the "Chief Pilot". I've worked for a couple of those in the past.
I'm sending you an email regarding this right now. I do appreciate your help. Thanks!

More Axle Questions
After re-reading the various threads on the axles and axle bolts, I would like to verify a couple of points. First, my 170A is pre-19219, so I assume I have 4 x 5/16 axle bolt holes. If I were to replace the axles with any solid aluminum (0541124-1) or hollow steel (1441003-1) axle, would I need to ...

New Mexico Backcountry Fly-In
I returned yesterday from the New Mexico Pilots' Association inaugural Backcountry fly-in at Negrito forest service strip (0NM7) near Reserve, NM. This strip is at 8140' MSL in the Gila National Forest. The fly-in was a huge success. There were 16 airplanes present on Friday night when I arrived. Se...

Re: Reklaw 2010
I would go but only if I hear first hand from the Mason's (e.g. posted on their website) that there will be limitations placed on low passes, smoke oil, and non-aircraft motor vehicles in the aircraft parking areas (ATVs, motorcycles, cars and trucks, etc.) They seem more concerned about campfires t...

Re: alaska airplane salvage--probably some of Richard's buddies
Come on guys it's obvious. A full wing wouldn't fit in that Stinson though I'm sure they tried. Slinging a wing under helicopter is much harder than you would think and cost probably as much as a new airplane maybe by the time your done. Actually a Bell 206 runs about $800-$1000 per hour and ...

Re: Shop withholds aircraft from owner
I'd like to point out that just because you have an annual inspection performed on an airplane doesn't make it airworthy as there are a lot of really crummy IA's out there. I like to have airplanes annualed in lieu of a "pre-buy inspection" (whatever that is--I'm on the same page as George...

Re: alaska airplane salvage--probably some of Richard's buddies
1. You might be a redneck pilot if... 2. Why'd they ruin a perfectly good piece of new sheet metal? I'm sure they could have salvaged a piece off the john boat or unwrapped the foil off some leftover hot dogs. 3. Now everyone up there is going rogue. 4. They were more worried about washout than the ...

Re: ICOM RADIOS
My guess (and it's worth what you paid for it) is that the remote flip-flop is wired incorrectly. This would of course mean that your EE/IA made a mistake and therefor it is much more probable that some weird force in the universe is causing your radio to perform a function that it is designed to pe...

Re: Hangar Broken Into
A little update: No dirtbags caught...yet. I've been told there is no deductible on my homeowner's for theft, but I need to make another call to USAA to make sure my stuff is covered. If it won't jack up my rate it might be worth getting my stuff replaced. I found a disc lock that would fit the door...

Wood 170 Desk Model
Does anyone have a wood desk model of their 170? Preferably with custom paint and registration. I'd like to know where I could find one if anyone has any suggestions. The outfit that's making a model of one of the jets that I fly could do it if I provided 3 view drawings and measurements, but I'd ra...

Hangar Broken Into
A couple of days ago I got a call from my friend who is also my IA mechanic telling me that the lock had been cut off my hangar and was missing. He thought I had moved so he looked inside and saw my airplane and that is when he called me and then the sheriff. It turns out all of my tools, my toolbox...

Re: Security: Let's ask ourselves....
Why did they let him come so far into this country? Why didn't they shoot him down? Because it wasn't a threat. We don't shoot the people walking or driving across the border illegally, why should we shoot someone flying across? Hell, we didn't even shoot down MiGs when they flew into our airspace ...

Re: Flap Gap Seals
And seeing as how parasitic drag increases in proportion to the square of velocity, a 200KTAS airframe will experience 4 times the parasitic drag of the same airframe at 100KTAS. To put it another way, if you put flap gap seals on a 100KTAS aircraft, it will benefit you 1/4 as much as if you put the...
