When I worked as a Broadcast engineer at a TV station we had a large one used to bulk erase large magnetic tape reels. Basically it is just AC current going through a coil. The constant 60 cycles changes the current direction which will demagnatize the object. You can either slowly increase the dist...

But most mechanics recommend you inspect the screen every time you drain the oil. This is because the screen has no by-pass capability, and if clogged, will cause the engine to starve for oil. BTW, we are talking about the "pressure" screen...the one with the larger diameter. Well.... The...

Re: Compass Fluid?

I have a very slight leak (one drop every 5-10 min) when flying above 6,500' in an Airpath compass. Anyone ever used the repair kit sold by Aircraft Spruce? What is compass fluid? It is listed as hax mat with a haz mat charge. I wondered if I could buy the fluid locally (Memphis). Thanks, R/Lee Wel...

Re: static full power run up/what rpm???????????

For full power static run- up what RPM would you consider accepatble?? I have been checking this out with my AME and we are getting 2350. He feels higher would be better. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Gary Check the TCDS At FAA.gov (A-799) http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidan...

The last 3 IA seminars that I have been to Mr. O’Brian was the key note speaker and he was the person who wrote most of the ICA so I would take him at his word. Did he give you the VCR in the biz jet story? And what is your RA number? Bill Hi Bill, Yes on the VCR story, not sure on the RA number ...

Instruction for Continued Airworthiness, ICA

Bela, Mr. O’Brien used a sex change story to justify why you needed a 337 to change back to the original configuration as a 337 modifies the original TC. He said if a male had a sex change to become a female, it would take another 337 major alteration, to go from female to male again. I did not ha...

Blue, I agree, but this guy was on a 3 month tour from the national office. Mr Bill O'Brien will be retiring next year, so maybe next years IA seminar will be different.

337's dated before 10-1-55

I just returned from an FAA IA seminar, 8 fun filled hours in a metal folding chair, some of the high lights are. Any 337's dated before 10-1-55 are approved data. So this means if you can get a copy of a rag wing to metalized wing, form 337, dated before 10-1-55 you don't need to buy the STC. Any f...

As for comment regarding the internally-grounded generator possibilities ...("If you had the other type of generator...")...I don't believe any generators with internally grounded fields were ever approved for Cessna 170 aircraft. So, while that type generator/regulator system may exist i...

There are two ways a generator can be wired, with the field circuit internal grounded or external grounded. The ones on our aircraft are external grounded through the voltage regulator. You can verify which type of generator you have by removing both wires and check for continuity with an OHM meter....
